Magnetic Bearing Turbo Blower

Magnetic Bearing Turbo Blower

ClearFlow manufactures and supplies magnetic bearing turbo blowers from 55 to 400 kW for wastewater aeration and industrial process air. A high-speed permanent magnet motor drives a 3D-flow impeller directly on a rotor levitated by active magnetic bearings, with no gearbox, no oil and no mechanical wear. With about 77% overall package efficiency, compared with about 57% for a conventional Roots blower, the same air duty needs roughly a quarter less power.
Paired with our cyclone, jet, disc and tube diffusers, the blower and the aeration grid are sized together, so the whole system runs at its best efficiency point.

Magnetic Bearing Turbo Blowers
How It Works
The impeller and the permanent magnet synchronous motor are integrated on one shaft. Eddy-current position sensors continuously measure the shaft position and vibration, and the magnetic bearing controller adjusts the current in the bearing coils to keep the rotor levitated without contact. The variable frequency drive powers the motor stator, turning the rotor at high speed. Air enters through the inlet collector, gains velocity in the impeller, and is converted into pressure in the volute before leaving the outlet.
Key Benefits
•High efficiency: >97% efficient high-speed permanent magnet motor and direct drive. About 77% overall package efficiency.
•No oil, no wear: active magnetic bearings levitate the rotor. No lubricating oil, no gearbox, no belts, no mechanical maintenance.
•Low vibration and noise: contact-free rotor in a fully enclosed acoustic cabinet.
•Lower life-cycle cost: the lowest operating cost of all common blower types.
•Intelligent control: stepless VFD speed control over a wide flow range, ready to link with dissolved oxygen (DO) control.
•Easy installation: blower, motor, VFD, controls and cooling in one cabinet. No special foundation required.

Core Components
•High-efficiency impeller: 3D-flow design for maximum efficiency and a wide operating range; forged high-strength aluminum or titanium alloy.
•Active magnetic bearings: 5-axis active magnetic levitation with real-time monitoring of rotor and bearing status.
•High-speed PM motor: permanent magnet synchronous motor up to 60,000 rpm, with the impeller mounted directly on the rotor.
•Volute: logarithmic-spiral profile for low vibration, low noise and high efficiency; high strength and corrosion resistant.
•Inlet collector: hyperbolic bell-mouth that fills the impeller inlet evenly and reduces inlet resistance.
•Position sensors: high-frequency, high-precision eddy-current sensors, resistant to interference, heat and shock.

Maximum airflow in m³/min at each pressure rise. For reference only; send us your required airflow, pressure, altitude and ambient temperature for an exact selection.
Installation Requirements
•Install indoors in a clean, dry, well-ventilated room. Do not install outdoors or where exposed to rain, snow or high humidity.
•Ambient temperature −10 °C to 45 °C. Add heating if the room stays below 0 °C; strengthen ventilation if it stays above 35 °C.
•Keep at least 1,500 mm clearance around the blower and 2,000 mm above it for airflow, installation and maintenance.
•Recommended altitude below 1,000 m; consult our engineers for higher sites. Keep the room as dust-free as possible to extend inlet filter life.

Applications
•Municipal and industrial wastewater treatment (activated sludge, SBR, oxidation ditch, MBR)
•Pulp & paper, food & beverage, pharmaceutical, textile and printing & dyeing
•Chemical, petrochemical, oil refining, coal and power plants
•Cement, glass, steel and metallurgy, electroplating and electronics
Pneumatic conveying and flue gas desulfurization

FAQ
Q: How much energy can I save by replacing a Roots blower?
A: A magnetic bearing blower reaches about 77% overall efficiency, compared with about 57% for a typical Roots blower, so the same air duty needs roughly 25% less power. Savings are often higher when the air demand varies during the day, because the VFD follows the demand. Send us your operating data for an estimate.
Q: Does it need lubrication or a foundation?
A: No. The rotor is levitated by magnetic bearings, so there is no oil system, and the blower is delivered as a complete cabinet that does not need a special foundation.
Q: Can it work with dissolved oxygen control?
A: Yes. The built-in VFD and controller can receive a DO or pressure signal and adjust airflow automatically.
Q: What information do you need for a quotation?
A: Required airflow, discharge pressure, site altitude and ambient temperature, power supply (voltage/frequency), and the number of duty and standby units.
